The Cathedral of Christ the Light...
emerged as the legacy of our former parish home, St. Francis de Sales Cathedral, which was destroyed in the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. The new Cathedral takes its place as a landmark edifice and home parish of the Diocese of Oakland. Its beauty and function are central to the purpose of creating community and providing a place of worship for Catholics throughout the Oakland Diocese and East Bay.
The Diocese of Oakland is rich in cultural diversity. Recent immigrants make up more than 25 percent of our parishioners.
